There are too many wonderful musicians and projects and associates to mention, but here are a few connections..
Don Berner: a mover and a shaker in the jazz music scene who possesses a deep mind, devoted to fair play. Opinionated yes !!
Jeff Brent: a professional musician by night and a world class musical theorist and author/teacher by day.
Althea Cunningham: a singer song writer who sings about life in her shoes. She's very compelling.
Brenda Earle is a Canadian who now makes her home and her career in New York. She's a fine vocal coach, singer and jazz pianist. She is good !!
Hal Galper: legendary jazz pianist who has played with all the jazz greats. My first 'official' Jazz Piano Teacher!!
Jennifer Scott: In my opinion Jennifer Scott is the prime jazz vocalist (who happens to play great piano too). Often paired with her husband, Rene Worst, she has quite a few CDs released now.
Bob Turner: a musical artist composer friend who has a clear vision and deep things to say about his observations about life and society.
Rene Worst: One of Canada's world class jazz bassist. Rene is on my first piano trio album: "homage'
MacEwan University Music: I spent 30+ years teaching for the MacEwan Music Program so I can highly recommend a visit to their site.
Edmonton Swing Band. I started 'workshopping' with them last September. It's been fun for me to conduct big band and getting things to work.
EKOSingers (choir) has been directed for over 30 years by Paula Roberts. I've been accompanying and working with EKOSingers for a while. There is not a finer group of singers/people around.
Yardbird Suite (and Little Birds). This venue is the primary reason for the relative health of the jazz/music scene in Edmonton and Alberta. They have fantastic imported groups from New York and the world over. They have open the doors to jazz and exposed Edmonton to a full spectrum of good jazz music of the highest quality. Kudos to the volunteers.
Brittany's: an upcoming, courageous music bar (right across from the Winspeare Theatre). They are featuring the best players of jazz in the probince and are getting support from PJ Perry's fans and others. Kudos to the owner and staff there. May they prosper!!
The Blue Chair is an established restaurant in the Ritchie district that is built for the performance of music. They have a high quality spectrum of music which features blues, celtic, rock, and jazz. Hats off to Harold the proprietor and music lover !!
Jeffrey's features live music with a lot of young players coming up locally with a variety of styles. Check them out.
UBC music would be my Alma Mater and is holding forth in the creation of the highest order of fine classical music. They have a fine faculty.
UVic Music Ed. I did my MEd there and enjoyed the learning process there and ended up learning a lot on many levels there.
